Cautiously Optimistic? NO! Be Prayerfully Optimistic.

April 17th, 2008

How many times have you heard the silly phrase, “cautiously optimistic?” WOW, way to go out on a limb, captain commitment! If things go right, “see I told you so.” But if things don’t go so well, “see I told you so.” Doesn’t this sum-up perfectly our society today? So, what are some things we are cautiously optimistic about?

Politicians have to be tops in using this phrase. We hear it most often in regards to the economy or poll results: “Looking ahead, our cautiously optimistic view is based on several broad forecasts.”

About company financial results: “As we proceed into fiscal 2009, the economic environment remains an important consideration, but we remain cautiously optimistic.”

How about sports? “Despite losing players due to injury on the defensive side of the ball, I remain cautiously optimistic about the team’s success this year.”

Ah, but there is a place to go to receive real optimism. It will require vision correction. Just look up. The best optimism you can generate under your own strength is cautious. There must be supernatural intervention for true optimism. How do you go about tapping into this eternal optimism? It is all about one relationship. The relationship is with Jesus and it is yours for the asking. All He asks for is belief and trust. Romans 10:8-9. Click for the Verse If you want to know more, read the Gospel of John. John uses the word “believe” over 90 times. It is an excellent book of the Bible to begin your journey with God. Go to His word, talk to Him, and see for yourself. Call out to Him and He will be faithful. (Jeremiah 29:12 and 1 John 5:14-15.) Click for the Verse

If you already believe in Christ, then you are well on your way. As believers, we are called to be in the world, but not to be of it and to be the salt and light. We can be PRAYERFULLY OPTIMISTIC and show others how to be the same. For Jesus taught us in Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it, and it will be yours.” Matthew repeats this in 7:7-8 in his gospel.

If you don’t know how, simply be yourself. Jesus wants you to be yourself. Besides, He already knows your needs; just tell Him, like a friend. Some of us still need a little framework. Jesus gives us a good one in the Lord’s Prayer. Both Matthew and Luke give us His words: Click for the Verses.

Not convinced? Try it. Pray and get in His Word for the next 30 days. Seek hard after God’s will. Keep a journal. Record your prayers. As you review them, record your the prayers that are answered. This process will fill you optimism. The optimism you will receive is not some hollow, fleeting, feel-good junk food you will get from the world. This optimism will be joy overflowing. Just try it. By the way, put on some tight fitting socks, otherwise they will come flying off!

Doesn’t this astound you? If we have faith and pray, our prayers will be answered! Because we believe in Christ, we know without a doubt we will be in heaven, with Him. How can you be anything but optimistic? We worship a loving, infinite, Holy, glorious God. Take heart. Pray. And, most importantly, help others to have the same optimism we have, through Christ.

So, the next time someone asks you how you are, answer them, “I’m prayerfully optimistic, thanks for asking!”

We are given a commission to take the Gospel of the saving work of Jesus Christ to all the world. We are not given the time of His return. The work must be done as quickly as possible. None of us know what the future will hold. We are not promised tomorrow. Our video shows the urgency of our work and shares the Gospel. Feel free to use this as your visual tract and share it with as many people as possible. Drop us a note and let us know how you used our video to guide someone to a saving belief in Chirst.
